About the Role
We are looking for a Furniture Buyer & Product Development Specialist with exceptional taste, a sharp eye for design and a proven track record of picking products that sell. You know the furniture market inside out: what customers want next, which suppliers can deliver it, and how a product should look and be presented online to become a best-seller.
You will lead product selection for our home theatre seating and furniture collections, from spotting trends and sourcing new products to working with marketing on how each one is positioned and launched across North America. You will work closely with our sales, marketing, merchandising and product development teams.
What You Will Do
- Product Selection & Buying
- Identify winning products by tracking furniture trends, styles, materials, colours and price points across North America.
- Source and evaluate new products and suppliers, including samples, quality, cost and lead times.
- Build and refresh our product assortment so each collection is on-trend, well-priced and fills clear gaps in the market.
- Negotiate pricing, minimum order quantities, payment and delivery terms with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Work with product development on new designs, fabric and finish options, and improvements to existing products.
- Track sales, margins and customer feedback for each product, and recommend what to reorder, improve or discontinue.
- Judge every product as a whole: not just the item itself, but whether its photos, colours, styling and online presentation make it look as good as it should.
- Market Research & Marketing
- Research competitors, customer preferences and pricing to find new product and market opportunities.
- Work with the marketing team to position each new product: target customer, key selling points, pricing and launch timing.
- Provide product stories, feature highlights and competitive insights for product pages, campaigns, social media and sales materials.
- Review product pages and website presentation (UI) for each product, judge whether the layout, images and visual style suit the product and our brand, and give clear direction to our design and web team on what to improve.
- Set the visual direction for photography and styling so products look premium and consistent across our website and marketplaces.
- Plan new product launches with marketing and sales so stock, content and promotions are ready on time.
- Use sales data, reviews and market feedback to measure how products and campaigns perform, and suggest improvements.
- Attend furniture trade shows and industry events (for example, High Point Market or Las Vegas Market) to discover new products, suppliers and trends.
- Supplier & Channel Relationships
- Build strong, long-term relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Monitor supplier performance, product quality and on-time delivery, and resolve issues quickly.
- Identify distributor, dealer and retail partnership opportunities that can grow sales of our collections.
What You Bring
- 3+ years of experience in the furniture industry as a buyer, merchandiser, product manager or in product development.
- A proven track record of selecting products that sold well, which you can explain with examples and results.
- High taste: a strong, distinctive sense of furniture style, design and visual presentation, with a good feel for what customers will want next.
- A good eye for website and product-page presentation (UI), and the ability to tell whether a page, photo or layout is helping a product sell or holding it back. You will not design pages yourself, but you must know what good looks like.
- Solid knowledge of furniture materials, construction, upholstery and quality standards.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships.
- Comfort working with sales and margin data to make buying decisions.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work closely with marketing, sales and product teams.
