Oakville leaf pickup in 2026: when to put piles out and when to bag them

Oakville’s 2026 loose-leaf collection runs October 26 to December 4. Your zone controls your pickup week. Put leaves out no earlier than seven days before the scheduled pickup and by 7 a.m. on the first day of your zone’s week.

The leaf argument is older than this autumn

The leaves may be ready before the truck is. Oakville’s 2026 loose-leaf season runs from October 26 to December 4, but your street’s zone decides when to prepare the pile. Find that week first, then plan around the seven-day setup limit and the 7 a.m. deadline instead of chasing every falling leaf.

In October 2020, residents were already debating why some areas received more loose-leaf rounds than others. One proposed a student bagging scheme; replies raised the effort, liability and practical work involved. In October 2022, another reader thought their round had been missed, while someone elsewhere said collection arrived on time. The recurring problem is not simply whether Oakville has a service. It is knowing what your own street receives and when.

That helps explain why an early pile can frustrate a neighbour. Leaves may fall well before the truck is due, and a pile can spread while it waits. The September 2025 discussion returned to that same gap between falling leaves and collection. Use the current zone schedule for your address, rather than a neighbour’s remembered date or a round that applied several years ago.

Use your zone, not the nearest street

Zones 1, 2, 3 and 7 start October 26, then return November 9 and November 23. Zones 4, 5, 6 and 8 start November 2, then return November 16 and November 30. Zones A, B and C have separate overlapping windows. Use the tracker to identify your actual zone.

The town may collect at any point during the scheduled week. A cul-de-sac and entrance road can be done on different days. Once a street is finished, crews do not return until its next scheduled pickup.

Leave a safe edge

Use the boulevard or shoulder. Keep leaves away from storm drains, bike lanes and ditches, and keep road traffic clear. Loose-leaf piles must not contain branches, stones, garbage or other yard waste.

If you miss the service or your area is outside it, bag leaves for Halton Region yard-waste collection under its rules. ServiceOakville can explain eligibility. A mature tree alone does not prove a street is included.

Plan one manageable round at a time

Find your zone first and note the first day of its next collection week. The pile must be ready by 7 a.m. that day, but you cannot put it out more than seven days early. If your week begins on a Monday, use the calendar to count back rather than treating the whole month as a collection window. Set a reminder for preparation, not just the truck date.

Keep branches and other yard waste separate. Keep the bike lane clear as well, even if you see other people using it for piles. If you miss the round, crews do not return specially for a late pile; the next scheduled service is the relevant date. Some streets are outside loose-leaf service altogether. For those homes, or for leaves that fall between rounds, read the linked yard-waste options instead of copying a nearby street. The town’s tracker is the useful next step when the date and what you see outside do not seem to match.
